Safe Sport & Child Safety

The Casey Tigersharks Swimming Club is committed to providing a child-safe, child-friendly, and inclusive environment where all children and young people are respected, valued, and protected from harm. We believe every child has the right to participate in sport in a safe, supportive, and empowering environment.

Our club has zero tolerance for child abuse, discrimination, or misconduct of any kind. We are dedicated to providing a supportive environment where every swimmer can thrive, make friends, and achieve their personal best.

Our Framework & Compliance

To ensure the highest standards of safety, accountability, and integrity, our club operates under two vital regulatory frameworks:

1. Swimming Australia National Integrity Framework (NIF)

The Casey Tigersharks Swimming Club has formally adopted the Swimming Australia National Integrity Framework. This is a comprehensive suite of rules and policies that governs the behaviour and conduct of everyone involved in our sport, including swimmers, coaches, parents, committee members, and officials.

The NIF consists of the following core policies:

  • Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy
  • Member Protection Policy
  • Complaints, Disputes and Discipline Policy (CDDP)
  • Code of Conduct
  • Improper Use of Drugs and Medicine Policy
  • Competition Manipulation and Sports Gambling Policy

2. Victorian Child Safe Standards

As a sporting club operating in Victoria, we are committed to implementing and continually improving our practices in line with the 11 Victorian Child Safe Standards under the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2005 (Vic).

We regularly review our policies, procedures, culture, recruitment practices, training, and physical and online environments to ensure the safety and cultural inclusion of:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.
  • Children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Children with disability or additional support needs.
  • LGBTIQA+ children and young people.

Safe Physical and Online Environments

The Casey Tigersharks Swimming Club is committed to maintaining safe physical and online environments for all members. We promote respectful and appropriate behaviour across all club activities, including training sessions, competitions, social events, social media platforms, messaging applications, email communications, and other digital channels used by the club.

All members are expected to use electronic communications responsibly and in accordance with our Code of Conduct and safeguarding policies.

Requirements for Our Officials, Coaches, and Volunteers

Child safety is a shared responsibility. To ensure a safe environment at every training session and meet, the Casey Tigersharks enforce strict compliance requirements for our staff and volunteers:

  • Working with Children Checks (WWCC): All committee members, coaches, technical officials, and regular volunteers must hold a valid Victorian Working with Children Check registered with our club.
  • Integrity Training: Our leadership, committee, and coaching staff complete mandatory Sport Integrity Australia safeguarding education.
  • Code of Conduct: Every member agrees to abide by our behavioural standards upon annual registration.

See Something? Say Something. (How to Report a Concern)
